Exercise and wellbeing is more important than ever, so as long as your walk complies with government guidance – yes! It’s important to keep up to date with current coronavirus restrictions regarding travel and whether you can take part with those outside your household. The beauty of organising your own walk allows for flexibility of when you take on your challenge – please just email us if your event date changes.
This is dependant on your route. On average, it takes 20-30 minutes to walk a mile, taking into account a slower pace when admiring scenery and trekking through uneven terrain. Use this to roughly work out how long your route will take, adding an extra 30 minutes for every 1,000 ft of uphill walking.
Whether you walk two miles or 200, it’s completely up to you! There’s no time limit so you can do it all at your own pace. When you sign up you will have access to training advice from our specialist coaches.
When you sign up we will send you a pack which contains steps to help you plan your walk, as well as location and fundraising inspiration. We ask for you to choose an event date when you sign up, but please put an estimate if you are not sure, and just let us know once this is confirmed.
Absolutely! We ask for the date of your walk when you register as this allows us to send you support leading up to your challenge, but if you are not yet sure when to do yours please put a rough estimate on the online form. We are also aware that plans may change or you have to push back the date. In any of these cases, please email us with your revised date so we can keep supporting you ahead of your trek for Alzheimer’s Society.
How your money helps
Your walk could have a life-changing impact for people affected by dementia:
£50 would enable researchers to use an innovative picture communication tool that helps people with advanced dementia to manage problems with eating and drinking.
£208 would fund one of our Side by Side services for a day. This one-to-one volunteer programme empowers people with dementia to keep on doing the things they enjoy.
£1,560 could fund one week of an Alzheimer’s Society clinical fellowship, which allows clinicians and healthcare professionals to carry out research to improve care and treatment for people with dementia.
